Parking Information

There are many good reasons to look for and follow the instructions on parking signs in the District Council of Yankalilla

As a resident or a visitor, you will be helping yourself and others by reducing traffic congestion. Along with improving road safety, letting other vehicles, including service and emergency vehicles, navigate our streets more easily and effectively, as well as improving the overall look and feel of the local environment. Not only that, you will also avoid the fines that are applicable to various parking offences under the Australian Road Rules and help us help you with better management of our parking and traffic flow.

Disabled Parking Permits

Disability Parking Permits are not issued by Council.  They are issued by the Department of Transport, Energy and Infrastructure.  Please contact them by phone on 13 10 84. Their Disability Parking Permit page, with details of criteria and how to apply can be found at this website.

Parking Concessions for Disabled Parking Permit holders:

South Australia gives time limit concessions to holders of disability parking permits where there are no spaces available for people with a disability and where the sign or meter shows specific time limits.

If the time limit shown is:

  • less than 30 minutes, the time limit for a disability parking permit holder is 30 minutes
  • 30 minutes or more but less than one hour, the time limit for a disability parking permit holder is two hours
  • more than one hour, the time limit for a disability parking permit holder is twice the period indicated.

Parking Enforcement

The District Council of Yankalilla will continue to be active in the community with the enforcement of the Australian Road Rules(64 kb).

Be aware that Council is vigilant in enforcement with regards to vehicles obstructing footpaths, kerb ramps, and other pedestrian areas, and expiations will be issued for non-compliance.

If you receive an expiation notice and you wish to appeal this notice, then refer to the information on our Expiation Notices Page.

Fees

The District Council of Yankalilla is not responsible for the fees associated with parking offences as they are set by the State Government. The South Australian Current Regulations(7 kb) outlines the fees and their corresponding offence code.

As of 3 February 2014 all expiations and reminder notices not paid by the due date will be enforced with the Fines Enforcement & Recovery Unit of South Australia.

Please note:

  • the Fines Unit takes over the expiation from Council, and
  • non-payment can effect your car registration.

For more information please visit www.fines.sa.gov.au for Changes to Fines in South Australia Information Sheet.

If you are experiencing severe financial hardship and cannot afford to pay your expiation by the due date please contact the Fines Enforcement & Recovery Unit on 1800 659 538 or visit www.fines.sa.gov.au to make alternative arrangements.

If you have any questions please contact Council on (08) 8558 0200.
