Dog and Cat Registration

Dog Registration Fees

Council resolved to adopt new dog registration fees for 2017/18 at its Council Meeting on Tuesday 18 July 2018.  The new fees are detailed in the table below.

Dog and Cat Reforms

  • The Dog & Cat Management Board are currently reforming the way dog registrations are performed, this has included consolidating the fee categories from multiple down to two (Entire and Standard).  The Administration in setting the consolidated fees reviewed the cost of providing the service, including the recent change to introduce greater after hours and weekend services.
  • While not fully recovering costs, the recent increases has closed the gap between revenue and expense.
  • With only 1,400 dogs contributing to revenue, and the functions of our department no different than the larger Councils, recovery is difficult.
  • It is noted that while for many years we were charging less than our neighbours that we are now in front as we play catch up.
  • In this financial year, Council will be offering free or reduced cost micro-chipping days and performing greater education on the reforms and responsible animal ownership.

New Dog and Cat Laws are coming on 1 July 2018. Changes include compulsory micro-chipping and desexing.  Stay informed.  Visit the Dog and Cat Management Board's website for latest information.

Dog Registrations

All dogs are to be registered once they reach three months of age and it is the responsibility of the owner to ensure their dog(s) are registered each year.

A dog can only be registered to one person and that person must be over 16 years of age.

Dogs already registered with the District Council of Yankalilla will receive a renewal notice before mid July each year and the registration fee is due by 31 August.  Payments after 31 August will incur a late payment fee ($15).

The Dog and Cat Management Board have amended categories of dogs for registration.

Rebates are available for dogs desexed and/or micro-chipped (on presentation of the relevant certificate).  Please note, dogs can be exempt from desexing and/or micro-chipping by a vet (exemption certificate must be presented at time of registration.
